Default Need information to make a choice

I am looking real hard at the Nomad. I almost bought one this passed weekend. [&:]I presently have a 750 Vulcan that has been great over the 11 years I have had it, but now want a larger bike. I am between the Nomad and the Yamaha Royal Star Tour Deluxe. I have read everything I can find on these bikes and would love to hear the options of those who have Nomads and those who may have tested the Yamaha. I have some time to make my decision. I opened up a CD to save up and pay cash next March for a new bike. Now I just need as much information I can gather about these bikes to make the best choice.

Thanks,
Dan

Hello Dan, welcome... Can't help ya much in the way of performance, etc on either bike. JMO, the Nomad is a better looking bike. Nomad has self cancelling turn signals, hydraulic valves, nice nice machine. Plenty of aftermarket for both of them. See if you can test drive each one, and go from there, maybe...

DanRN,
Check out the comparison road test from Motorcycle Cruiser magazine: http://motorcyclecruiser.com/roadtests/baggers05/
They pretty much preferred the Nomad over the Royal Star Tour Deluxe and the HD Road King.
After test riding, comparing features, specs and price, I came to the same conclusion and purchased a 2006 Nomad.
Good Luck in your search
Jerry

I also looked at the Yamaha Tour Deluxe and Nomad before settling on the Nomad.

1. The Yamaha has Carbs...4 of them. I wanted fuel injection.
2. According to many forums The tour deluxe has an annoying noise that drives people crazy. some say it's the clutch and others say its the airbox.
3. Price. A new Nomad around here is under $12.600 OTD. The Yamaha was much more.

DanRN, I have owned an 03 Nomad and recently bot an 06. The 06 is a much improved bike. Lots of power and smooth riding. I've been riding now off and on for about forty years. Had a HD Road King and loved the look and sound. I really like the seating, shaft drive and dependability of the KawNomad. I have not owned the Yam Silverado or large cruiser from Yam. They seem like great bikes too. My nod is for the Nomad!
Good luck in your selection and by all means sit on and/or ride both bikes if you can as well. SafeRidingToYa!

I am new to ths site but can help with this question.

I have a Yamaha Tour Deluxe and I own a Suzuki C50. The TD is very powerful smooth riding bike and has alot of great features, however the motor is very hot and your feet bake in the summer time. The bike is not very good at all for stop and go traffic. The lower fairing does not come off because all the crusie control electronics are located down there.

I am looking at trading in both bikes an getting a Nomad. I love my C50, it is a fantastic crusier but finances will only allow me to keep one bike.

Also, the TD is very heavy and handles like a beast at low speeds. I took the bike cross country and loved the smooth ride, incredible power and oh yeah the electronic cruise control. But like I said, it's gotta go, the thing is just too dam hot & heavy.

Hope this helps.

Mike.

I know I am way late and out of date for this thread but...Before I bought my 06 Nomad I researched as much as I could and the general opinions from others, particularly cycle mags is that the Yamaha is faster, The HD better handling and the Kaw a solid all around machine with with no real shortcoming. It is rated at 57 HP (if I recall) and around 97 ft lbs of torque (127NM). Boiling this down it is a powerfull engine and not a sport bike in performance. It is fast enough to cause me to have grin aches and at 110 it seems to laugh. My experience is that it handles better in town and on the highways and biways than anything else I have ever ridden. My only problem was that I wasn't quite tall enough for the handlebars which I quickley remedied with a set of Scootworks Phat Risers II.
