severe steering wobble.

Hi there, I have just purchased a 10 year old immaculate 1500 Nomad. On the way home whilst sitting at 80mph on a long sweeping bend on the M6 on a dry road and no wind it went into a severe steeing wobble. I was sitting in lane one and nearly ended up bouncing off the central barrier. As far as I can see the bike is standard and had a new rear tyre fitted earlier that morning.

I would appreciate any advice anyone can give me.

Are the bearings in the steering yoke shot? Are the nuts holding the yoke assembly together snuged up like they ought to be?

Can you jack the bike up, making sure it's stable, and grab the front wheel and try to move it side to side, forward and back, or up and down? That would tell you if you have a steering yoke isssue, which it kinda sounds like.

I at first suspected suspension or head bearing issues until you mentioned the new rear tire installed that morning. Check that latest addition, ie the new tire install that morning. Balance, position, etc. Good luck.
