Hello, new to this forumn, new to a Nomad. I bought a 1999 Nomad 1500, however when I start the engine, it fires up but the oil light stays on...stopped engine immediately....HELP?

 

Checked the oil?

 

maybe change the oil and filter so you know it's done right. then go from there, Pastor Dude probally knows more about the nomad then I. welcome to KF keep us posted

 

Is it your first bike? Have you had it running before? If you have thick oil on a cold day it may take a bit for the pressure to build up. I would follow Hoedog, change the oil and filter to make sure you have the proper type and quantity of oil in there. If you still have problems its probably the sensor, make sure its properly connected. If you actually are not getting pressure then it could be an internal problem hopefully you wont have to go that far. Let us know how it goes, and welcome to KF!

 

Changed oil and filter, still zero oil pressure at fire up...oil pump problem? ...oil pump drive? I have heard that Kawasaki may cover this? any comments?

 

11 year old bike? Why would they?

 

Oil pumps dont fail vary often, I would check the sensor first, and varify that there actually is no pressure before cracking into the motor. I'm not sure where the oil filter is but if the pump actually isnt pumping then the filter should still be empty. If the sensor is good but the filter is full then it is pumping and your just not getting enough pressure out of it and may just be a clog in the lines. If the filter is empty your gonna have to inspect the pump to find the problem. Good Luck!

 

Change the oil and the filter as mentioned since it does have a bypass valve built into the filter. Clean the Oil pump screen. Add the recommended oil and amount. See if that works. If not, place your oil pressure guage and measure pump pressure. Good luck and Welcome to KF
