Default Second gear dropout

Hi all, i bought a 1992 zzr600 and keeps dropping out of second gear with just a little acceleration. i eventually got the motor out and found a shifting fork ground away on one side. Should just replacing the fork be a good enough solution or is the ground out fork just a symptom of the problem? Any help is appreciated.

Do a visual check of the drum grooves, gear groove, gear positioning lever spring, the shift fork pin for any abnormal wear or slack. Replace the fork, install a dyno oil and a new oil filter for flushing the bike. Change both soon after running the bike throughout the gears a few times. You should be good to go after that.
