Default Is re-jetting necessary for a bolt-on/slip-on pipe?

I'm new to this forum and have a question, probably simple enoughfor you guys to shed some light (so to speak :-)... I am a proud owner of a 2007 ZZR600. I'm toying about the idea of replacing the stock can with a bolt-on Yoshimura RS-3. My question is... is re-jetting a must? A dealer rep in Canada told me it's not! Just trying to get a second opinion. Thanks in advance!

Congrats on the ride and welcome to KF!

Your rep is prolly correct in that it is not manditory to rejet. However, altitude, weather play a big part in jetting. I would still do a plug chop and read the plugs. Get used to the ride and note where in the rpm range things are happening for your style/preference. That will tell you the final answer.

If you don't you may get the sound (except for nasty popping on decel)but not the performance gains.

I'd do it. No reason to half-*** it, imo. May take more money, but it's worth it in the end. I'm in the process of doing that exact upgrade.. Still saving money for the pipe though. Got the jet kit done. Do the rejet.. That's my opinion.

Thanks, Deuce! I guess that makes sense! If you don't mind me asking... how much did the jet kit cost? Did you do the re-jetting yourself or did you get a pro motorbike mechanic do it for you. Sorry, man!... I just know how to ride but am notmechanically-inclined at all.

The jet kit's about 125 bucks online. I installed it myself. Not as hard as you might think, BUT get the repair manual. I wouldn't have been able to pull it off without that book. You'll also need a high flow air filter. Get yourself a K&N, that's another 60 bucks online. ZZRICK can tell you better about the performance boost of it since I'm still in the process (waiting on the money for my exhaust). But, if you're gonna do it, do it right the first time. And I can not stress this GET THE MANUAL.
