Questions on ZZR from a potential (2x) buyer
Hi folks...
I'm looking at getting a new bike and among my possibilities is the ZZR600.
Now I've been riding for 10+ years and it may sound odd, but I've already had a ZZR600. Don't worry I'll explain.
Rather, I've had a new (back then) '99 ZX-6R. Gorgeous bike and I absolutely loved it. It had a wicked intake howl once you got the revs up a bit and was an excellent bike. Throttle response was spot on and the power was very smooth. Eventually I sold it.
Anyway, here's the catch, I had the bike in florida - so elevation and temperatures changes were almost non-existent.
Now however, I live in the Rockies at a mile-high, dealing with...
a) a 5000+ foot range of elevation
b) big temperature extremes....100 degrees to 0
I know the ZZR, as they call it now, has carbs just like my old zx-6r. I've had bikes out here since, but all were fuel injected so it was a non-issue.
So my question to you guys (sorry it has taken so long!) is how would the bike cope while being used in such an environment whereyou can start a ride at 90 degrees and 6000 ft then be at 12,000 feet and 30 degrees just an hour or two later? Would it be unhappy at varying altitudes? How about starting up in really cold weather?

RE: Questions on ZZR from a potential (2x) buyer
I would stick with fuel injection man. My bike gets a huge flat spot starting around 45-50, and gets worse as the temp drops. If you throw in the altitude as well, I don't hink it would work out so well. An FI bike (as you know) can cope with the changes better, and you could even put a power commander on and store different maps. I love this bike, but in your situation it is definitely (My opinion) worth it to shell out some more cash for a new zx6r.
