Welcome to the forums....

I believe, someone plaese corrrect me if I am wrong, the Z1000 was designed as a sport touring model. It is still plenty peppy, and you should be able to outrun that r6 in the straights. Once you hit an agressive road, you are going to lose the battle. It has more of an upright seating postion, and a more lax suspension.

I do not own one, and I am only giving you my opinion. If you want ***** to the walls, get a ZX10 or a ZX14.... GL man.

I am a true believer in the power of "Z". I have an '03 z.I bought it the day after Easter '04,and now have over 35,000 miles on it.No problems keeping up.I play with FZ1's all the time.I am 6'2",over 285 lbs,and it still whips the front end right up!Screw the push-up position of those tuning fork bikes.Street-fighter is the way to be!

The Z1000 will not outrun an R6!!! Top speed on on a Z w/ stock gearing is an indicated 167 at rev limiter in 6th gear, the speedo is off by about 7-8 mph at that speed. My buddy has a 04 R6 when I am hittin the limiter he pulls from me very quicky. I have seen 178 mph on his speedo (it had more in it). up to 120 mph I pull on him but after that he passes my bike. I bought the Z because my insurance is $158 a year (and I got it new for 6600)I would have bought a zx10 but the insurance was $1000 yr. The Z is a fun bike bike but if you are wanting to ride fast, buy a sportbike cuz on the Z you will be hangin on for dear life tryin to stay on it at 140. a sportbike keeps the air off ya and is much more comfortable at high speeds. I like my Z but there are lots of things I dont like. Numb nuts after an hour, sore butt from the rock hard seat, and buzz buzz buzz. Real fun bike though. Most wont beleive but I can wheelie this bike up to 140mph. Another freind has a 06 1000 gixxer after ridin that, the Z feels like a big turd. Zach, IMOthere is nothing leisurable about the uncomfortable Z1000. The FZ is comfy.

do you have a bike now orwould a zed be your first bike? if that was the case i wouldnt suggest it. you can learn easier on a smaller bike than something like the z. but if you just want straight line speed get something akin to the zx-14
