Default Bill Blue's 351 with Mikuni TM36-68?

Hey all. I've been planning on doing Bill Blue's 331 big bore sometime this winter. However, now that the 351 has become available, I can't resist. My original intent was to also purchase one of Bill's modified Mikuni 33/34 pumpers. Now that I'm stepping up to the 351 instead of the 331, I was wondering if I'd be better off with a TM36-68. I thought that with the 331 the TM33/34 would be sufficient. However, with the 351 I'm wondering if I'll be "running out of carb" with the TM33/34. I suppose I should include that my now 250KLX (soon to be the 351), has all the usual free mods, KDX snorkel, FSW 300 header, and a 2Bros. 300 KLX slip-on. I know some of you have been running the TM36 with the stock bore with good sucess, but I'm focused primarily on the use with the 351. Just like to know everybody's thoughts and opinions on the advantages/drawbacks to this combination. Thanks in advance!

I think the 351 kit will perform better wiyh a TM36 pumper carb on it. I want to try a TM36 carb on our bikes to see how they perform just haven't had time to purchase one yet.

I have the 330kit with a TM36-68 and I really like it. Pretty much a bolt in affair other than the throttle cables. Some have said that the stock cables (open only) would work mine did not. So I had some custom 4" longer cables made locally for the carb I am currently using only the open cable. I am having Motion Pro make me 2 custom cables and I am going to use a Motion Pro throttle with the set up.

Main Jet: 130 (stock)
Pilot Jet: 17.5 (stock is a 12.5)
Needle Jet: P-4 (stock is a P-8)
Needle: 9EBY1-50 (stock is a 9DZH6-50)
Needle Clip: 3rd slot from top (middle position)
Fuel/Air Screw: 2 turns out
A/P Pump Timing: Starts at 1/8 throttle and stops at 3/4 throttle
A/P Squirter: Pointed directly at the needle (fuel should splash off the needle)
Airbox lid removed - K&N air filter

This is the jetting that I am using with the 330 kit, some guys from Suncup came up with this set up and my bike runs great with it!!

Thanks for the reply Bill. Hope you don't take offense to me not calling to talk to you first on this. Just wanted to get some knowledge and opinions about the TM36 under my belt first from the great guys on here before discussing it with you. I'm sure the discussion here will create questions that I wouldn't have thought to ask. I do look forward to talking with you about it though sometime soon. Thanks again!

Hello all,
I got some flack because of a comment I made about using the TM36 insted of my TM33/34 on the 351 kit. The TM33/34 works well on all of the big bore kits for the KLX. What I ment was for the best performance on the 340 & 351 kit the biggder carb will make it work better giving better performance Jo Ann & I are still using the TM33/34 carb I would like to try one of the TM36 pumper carbs on my 351 to see how it will run just havent sprung for one yet maybe later.

The carb size is also dependent on what type of riding you do. If it is slower, single track, the 33-34mm would be a good choice. If you're riding in more open territory, the 36mm may be a better choice.
With the mods you're doing, the suspension will be the next weak point.

Ride on

+1 on the suspension being the weak point. At 300cc I feel like its the weak point.
