A buddy and I are discussing a trip from here in Iowa to the Smoky Mountains this summer. Probably in July. We both will be traveling 2 up with our wives.

It appears that the closest point for us to start the tour would be in Townsend or Pigeon Forge area. Some one suggested we stay in Sweetwater the first night and then go from there. Sweetwater is about 775 miles from here.

For you riders that live in that area or those who have made the trip, do you have any suggestions. We are obviously looking for reasonable lodging. With the women along we will be staying in motels. It will be a 2 day trip each way and we'll probably have 3 days to ride in the Smokey Mt. area.

Any advice will be appreciated.
