Default Question for the Dirt Riders out there

Ok, not a kawi question.
One of my customers is selling his 02 ktm 400. The thumper racing 450 kit is installed, skid plate, clutch guard, ironman sprockets, DID o-ring chain. Comes with two tanks, the MXC tank and the Clark tank. The R4 White Bros exhaust. He parked it Oct of last year and has low hours on it. Is $2k a good deal?

Reason for selling is that he has a brand new 525 now.

Thanks, Drag

That sounds very reasonable assuming decent condition.

cool, thanks for answering. I am sure it will not do 1st gear runs of 100mph plus, but this is a dirt ride. This should get me by in the winter months i would assume.

Note that these so called race bikes generally require a good bit more maintenance than your usual "off-road" bike. Mostly in terms of valve wear and so forth. That performance comes at a cost and that is usually it. But on the more higher maintenance bikes, they are usually designed so that the maintenance isn't too bad, i.e., easy to check and adjust valves and so forth. Just check the valves often and keep them in spec. Once they get out of spec and are being held open a little too long, that's when the heavy wear starts but as long as they are in spec they will last a long time.

BTW, if you have any specific questions about the bike, there's a wealth of knowledge on such matters over on thumpertalk.com. They've got some mfg/model specific sub-forums and can probably let you know better what you are getting and what to expect. Just a thought.
