Welcome to consumer electronics & photography. Tiny, highly curved lens distorts the image. Larger lenses have a more gradual and flatter profile. TV cameras hugely over-scan and are then cropped for broadcast in order to cut out the distortion. Think streetbike tire profile... skinny tire = sharper profile to achieve the same lean angles as a wider tire with a flatter profile.
