Default My bike trip to the UP of Michigan, July 4th week 2007

I just realized I never really posted the pictures... hehe... ok... so this is a bit dated :P

As most of you know, I rode to my dad's place for July 4th weekend last year, approximately 350 miles each way, plus well over 100 miles per day while up there. I got back at 10pm on Saturday, and did a Starved Rock run the next day - total riding in 5 days was well over 1600 miles. Took plenty of breaks while riding, and I felt fine.

Here are some of the sights - which you will also see if you join in for the Lake Michigan Circle Tour trip this June...

Tower Drive Bridge (I-43) crossing the Fox River @ Green Bay

Looking down at the city of Green Bay from Tower Drive Bridge

Peshtigo, WI

Lake Michigan @ Escanaba, MI

Lake Superior @ Marquette, MI

Marquette, MI

KI Sawyer Air Force Base, MI (defunct, open to public)

Along M-35 between Gwinn, MI and Negaunee, MI

Yeah, it is a great ride, especially once you get north of Milwaukee... the traffic just vanishes. Fairly smooth and sparsely populated state highways and county roads... good curves, lots of "along the lake" runs, tons o trees. Since WA and PCH is too far away - a trip like this, and the one I am doing around Lake MIchigan - will be as close as I get.

Sounds like a fair bit of riding in a short time. Thanks for sharing the pics, I don't know that area well. Only been riding for a year and a half myself and still waiting for a chance to take her for a long ride somewhere. Most of my riding's just been to and from work or under 50-miles each waytrips. Maybe this spring or summer I can take her forsome nice country rides with some nice scenery and have some fun with her. There are some nice windingback roads through farm and woods country in thearea herewhere there's not too much traffic but that's not the same as taking a nice couple hundred mile ride somewhere.

Take care.
