Personally I break anything in the way I want it to run with the exception of the first few miles or so .

Think about it ....How many miles does the average person travel in a years time .Most people who buy bikes probably want put a lot of miles on em .I think the manufactures do this to help control warranty claims .If they can keep people from ' hotrodding ' they probably want tear as much chit up , therefore , no warranty claims .

I like settin' the rings as you have already mentioned. No lugging and no redline, varying the throttle and gears to place a load on the rings.
