Dodge+transmission=anger
well shoot! we bought my grandpa's 1997 dodge ram 1500 off of him last fall when it had 92,000 miles on it but was very well maintained. well at 50,000ish miles he had the transmission rebuilt, so we thought hey it should be set to go....wrong....now at 107,000 miles(still greatly maintained) the trans needs to be either rebuilt or replaced...and the valves need work! I would say screw it and sell it, BUT its gonna be my vehicle once i get my liscence and i(15) dont quite have the cash to get a new car or a used one in any decent condition for 2500 bucks. idk the mechanic is looking at it now, gonna tune the valves, etc....see if the trans will last another 10k miles....ok so anyone have a like experience?

We have a bunch of Dodge Rams at work. I don't think any of them have ever had a transmission problem. I do believe my boss's Ram did have some sort of issue with the transmission, but it was a simple fix.
What ever you do, have another mechanic give you a second opinion on your transmission. A lot of transmission service techs will tell you anything to sell you a new tranny.

I drive a dodge work van every day and the tranny is the same way and had many dodges with tranny problems.(good thing they now have lifetime warranty) All dodges are the same, great motors and styling but crap in the auto trans dept.

I had a Jeep Grand Wagoner whichwas mostlyMopar, it had a 727 trans. When I bought it the beast shifted like drag car. I had to put a new valve body on, and put a new filter in it. After that it was butter. That war wagon had a better ride that some luxury cars that I've ridden in... Man I loved that thing.

Very true... Hopefully they can take it back to what it was. When stock car racing was done with production cars the Doge drivers were told that whatever problems they had the driver weren't allowed to say the drive line broke. They had to blame anything other than the engine or trans.

I bought the 99 Dodge 2500 Ram 4X4 diesel about 5 years ago, the weak link on some of those trucks was the automatic transmission. Mine had some weird sort of torque converter unlocking issues for a while, then I installed a noise filter on the tranny circuit. There have been bulletins that say to make sure your battery posts are really clean and have a good connection. I also replaced both of the batteries since they were the original ones when I bought the truck. I bought the truck with 85,000 and it now has 115,000, the diesel motor is flawless, the tranny is like I said the weak part. Time will tell.
Yep here she is, I am really trying to take care of her since its the last truck I am buying period!! I am so done with payments, between the truck, the car, both bikes and a couple of credit cards I'm tapped out every month. I swear when the vehicles are payed off I am going to run naked through the neighborhood. OK it may be 3 in the morning, but still. And admit it you all just pictured that. Sweet dreams.[8D][8D][8D]
