I personally own three Acer laptops one I have had for seven years, one for two years, and one for 1 1/2 years, no problems, one Toshiba laptop three years old and is retired no good for nothing. Acer is a worldwide IBM compatible PC manufacturer and you can usually get service anywhere in the world or at least tech support worldwide, Dell from what I can tell is a North American company and has a more limited network of repair facilities,

Dual core processors is overkill for most personal computer needs, and is not necessary, single core processors I feel are better for travelling because single core runs cooler and is easier on batteries

I would tend to lead to one of these machines, they are all pretty much the same other than maybe warranty and then all you would need to do is check them out in person to see which one appeals to you most as far as keyboard setup and touchpad setup, the nice thing about the acer is their "grid-vista" which allows you to have three full windows one the screen at once split up for easy viewing

You've got it backwards on the single core dual core thing. It's the dual core processors that are much more efficient and less energy consuming. I can get over four hours of constant use of my laptop battery mainly because of the dual core's efficiency.

my only dual-core was a pig on fuel, LOL, and is now dead, in my application single core is more than adequate more reliable and runs much cooler, I find it to be a more stable operating environment also, I am sure that they have improved dual-core technology, since I last owned one. And I don't require the added benefits of dual-core versus the lack of reliability, in my experiences.

Maybe so.
There are a bunch of Dual core designs now it seems. My 1.8Ghz dual core has been really good on battery consumption. I've read the same about other laptops using the new dual cores also. But the computer's hardware will have a big impact on how fast the battery drains too.
