Default ZX9R - What to look out for and what to know about it?

Alright my friend is selling his 94 ZXR 900r to me for 700$, it's running, fresh carbs cleaned, all I would need to do is put all the plastics back together, which is a joke. I know it runs that's what he used to drive before he bought GSXR 750.

My question is, what should I look out for and what will I need to know? What are common issues, problems they have, etc.

The bike does have 75,000 KM but has been rebuilt about 30,000 KM ago when something went wrong in the engine, not sure what though.

Thanks, Daren

Daren, the first generation 9's are (freaking) bullet-proof with proper maintenance. Having said that.....what was the "something went wrong in the engine" issue? You really need to find out, before you buy.

I asked him he said because 2 coils let go so he was running on 2 cylinders and he kept forcing the engine to go to get home and eventually something ceased up? Not too sure what he meant, he could be lying to get rid of it like he could be right. But, as I mentioned, last summer I took a small ride with him when he was using that specific bike so I'm not to stressed.

Two coils are no huge deal to replace. "Seized up?" Hmmm.... What's the status? Can we help?

We got her fixed, 2 coils cost us about 50$ (second hand ones off Ebay ) and it wasn't seized, it was just running on 2 because 2 carburator butterflies (or however you guys wish to call them) were'nt opening properly and the bowls kept overfilling due to floats!

Never trust somebody who said "i did carb work" when you buy it

OK....make sure the gas didn't overflow into the crankcase. (Long story, a friend of mine who was racing had that happen one time at Pocono; the carbs flowed gas into the crankcase and locked everything up...) Just double check everything....don't want to overflow the oil level in the case.
