1998 Zx9R rattle from right low side...
I need a 2nd opinion please....
I have a wonderful 1998, all green, zx9r and use it mainly now as the accasional commuter and weekend smile placement tool. Although it runs great, pulls as it should at idle it has a distinct rattle from the low right hand side of the bike. As soon as I set off or blip the throttle on its stand it disapears. There appears to be not consequesnce to the engine.
Has anyone any advice or is it terminal... Thanks in advance. RednGreen

The cam chain is on the right side of the engine. When on it's side stand, the right side is higher and will get a bit of oil starvation, particularly at start up. It's a good idea to keep the bike level at start up (sit on it until warm). Mine does the same thing.
As for the cam chain, if you've ever had the top cover off, you'll see the chain and a plastic "finger" coming up from the bottom that puts some tension on the chain and helps guide it properly. Sometimes the tension can get just a bit slack, and you'll hear the "bzzzzzzzz" of the chain. I think your noise is probably the same buzz I experience, though. Good news: It's not terminal.
Welcome to the forums, by the way!!! Glad to have another ZX9 rider among us! I think we're a vanishing species.
Gear up; stay safe.
