Default Yet another newb :)

Hey everyone, I just picked up an 85 Ninja 600 for my step-son. It's kind of in rough shape, but I couldn't turn it down for the price, free is always a good negotiator. The PO had obviously over revved it as there were two half dollar sized holes around the num. 4 cylinder (I'm assuming its the #4, counting them the same way as on my old GS). Overall the bike appears to be in decent shape (other than the engine), just needs a good bit of attention. Our current plan is to strip this old bike down to the frame and start a from the ground up rebuild. It just kind of pains me to see something like this sitting and gaining dust.

Oh yeah about myself, my name is Rob (kind of hard to tell from my screenname) and I'm married with 4 kids. I've been doing aviation maint. for just about 18 years and it usually takes something pretty severe, mechanically at least, to scare me away. Fortunatly I think I have imparted the ability to see something, like this old bike, for what it could be and not what it is to my step son. He is pretty excited about this project, I am hoping his excitement will see it through. If not oh well I will have two bikes to ride

Welcome to KF. Yes, free is good. The best thing about this ride is that your son will know how things work during the rebuild. Congrats.

Show some pics as you tear into it.

Thanks guys, that is one of the reasons I'm going this route. I'm hoping that with all the sweat and blood he puts into this not only will he know how it works but will take enough pride in it to not abuse it. At least I can hope lol. I will try to get a picture of it up soon, I am trying to locate the good camera (my girls are photo junkies) and not make you all suffer with phone pics.
