Default Rookie in the the house

Hey guys/gals. I am new to the kawasaki community, actually to the whole motorcycle scene. My name is Shan and I am from San Diego. I always wanted a bike since I was a kid but always thought it was too dangerous, finally I buckled up yesterday and picked up a new 09 Kawi 250r (black) I am also in the midst of my Basic rider course. So today was my first day to take this beauty out for a spin. I have to admit I was a little scared but it was a blast. At the moment I am in the process of breaking in the engine and I would love to hear any tips/advice as to what is the proper way for the break in and what is the break in period.
This is what I know from the reading this forum, keep the rpm under 5k and keep it under 60? I did have some problems shifting into higher gears. I think the bike doesn't allow me to shift into higher gears if I am going under 50 or so, is that possible? Again any tips or advices about the break in period will much appreciated I am very happy that I picked a Kawi and I am proud to be a member of this community

Shan

Get comfy with your ride, break it in to what you want and welcome to KF. Congrats on the ride.

My tip of the day is:

Skip breaking in the 250 and get yourself a 600.

Welcome to the forum. Be safe riding!

Sounds like you already know that most basic of rules, ride within your skill level. Good for you.
