New rider
Hey I got a 95 ZX7R last week. It was the absolute first street bike i ever rode. The only other bike i rode was a 125cc dirtbike. I been riding it everyday since i got it. I think im doing pretty good on it for a first time rider.I am from NYC and have taken it on city streets and the highway. I feel really comfortable on it. I am just wondering why people recomend 250's and 500's for people saying they wouldnt be able to handle a 600 nevermind a 750. Maybe its cause im 6 foot 215lbs but i feel like if i got a 250 i would be extremely disapointed within a week. And like i said i have limited riding experience and i feel like im doing pretty good on this 750. Just want to hear some opinions of me starting on a 750. Thanks

RE: New rider
Welcome to KF. Congrats on stepping up big time. Seems like your a bigger guy so that's probably one thing. Most people recommend the 250R fora newbie just learning the balance points, clutch, throttle control ect. But hey, what ever your comfortable on I guess. Gear up and be safe in the big city!

RE: New rider
I think part of the reason people suggest starting with a 250 is that there are some people who decide, after purchasing and riding for a while, that it's not for them. I see it all the time on Craigslist and Ebay. If you're not 100% sure that you're going to enjoy it or use it, I think minimizing the cash outlay has its advantages. There's a considerable price gulf between a new 250 and a new 750, both in price and insurance cost.

If ur not sure ur gonna like it i dont think its smart to buy a new bike anyway. But I think its more worth it to get a big used bike than a new small one, cause ur just gonna lose money on the new one and buy a bigger one next year. I just been taking it really easy on the 750 and am getting use to it pretty fast. Just gotta take it slow

RE: New rider
with your mentality, starting out on a bigger bike is fine, i started on a 1100 but knew my limits and the bikes capabilities. for this i say do it. most people just starting out dont know the potential and charicteristics on a bike and only buy based on looks and the cc factor and end up biting it, thats the one reason everyone says to start small.
