Picked up a 2006 KLX250S a while back, mostly for off road use, but I like the idea of being street legal to get to the trails and gas stations. I've been riding various street bikes for the past 6 years, but don't have much experience on dirt.

First order of business is a knobby rear tire. Some local hardcores recommended that, and told me my front is ok for what I want to do. As far as I can tell, the bike is bone stock. Any recommendations as to what changes I should make would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Rooster

Welcome to the forums Rooster! Look at the Dunlop 606 tire, its a great tire. A lot of us back in the day installed a 13 tooth front sprocket to give it some low end power on technical trails. if you want more power, throw on an after market pipe and get the carb jetted. Other than that just have fun and stay safe. Ride within your skill level and always wear the proper gear.

Thanks for the tips. I'm considering the 13 tooth front sprocket, after riding some single track. I think I was riding the clutch a lot more than I should have had to. Lack of experience probably played a part in that, too. On the advice of my parts guy, I went with a Maxxis IT Desert for the back. I'll have it on this weekend. I'm not worried about more power just yet. I'll get some more experience with what I've got, first.

Are you on the NBDSC site, too? Check it out, if you're not. Seems to be lots of good people and good local info over there. This is a great place for KLX specific stuff, too.

Let me know if you're going to be riding the Sussex area, sometime.
