Ummm...Sunday is the best day to ride if you are afraid of traffic. Honestly I think the safest time to ride is while commuting to work, at least in my experience. Welcome to KF

Welcome! When I got my first bike (ZX7) I went up and down the same road over and over again until I felt comfortable accelerating, decelerating, braking, using my turn signals, and turning the bike. Once I felt comfortable with that road I would move on to another road and then another until controlling the bike became more natural. If you live anywhere near the country, thats the best place to get acquinted (sp?) with your bike, imo. Another great place to take your bikein order to get to know her is deserted parking lots. Most K-Marts are out of business these days, their parking lots are greatfor this purpose. I still take my new bike there sometimes just to get a feel on different things before I take it to the street. Just gear up, be safe, and have fun with it.

I am located on the southside of Richmond, VA. I actually have some country roads that I can't wait to try out, like ones I have taken for Miata ridesthat are pretty much deserted most of the time.

Welcome to the KF family. The best way to learn your bike is through the MSF course, which will teach you proper riding technique so that you don't have to un-learn bad habits later.
