Default My New 09 SF

New member here, just picked my 09 up about 3 weeks ago with 0.3 miles and have 1500 or so miles on it now. I do alot of highway riding so I picked up a 14t counter sprocket and an FMF powercore4 muffler. I have some new ideas for the bike but i'm trying to do things slowly so I don't interest in this project. I chopped the tail up last night and I think it came out good. I'll be posting all kinds of updates here over the next few months. I ordered a sumo fender for it today, I want taller seat foam and handle bars/hand guards next week, remove the airbox and move the battery/overflow tank under the seat and finish my slim fiberglass KTM style side panels over the next 2 weeks, FMF header after that, and then a 351cc kit and hose kit when i'm out of things to do. I like making my own stuff, luckily this bike has tons of improvements to be made!

I think I cut close to 8 inches off the subframe and reused to stock quick disconnect for the tail and license plate lights. Saved a few pounds off the back, the license plate is tucked away but still clearly visible

I figured more people would be interested in the tail section.. it looks a million times better without that tumor on the back

I got around to installing the DynoJet kit and pulling the top of the airbox/snorkel off. Bike runs like a champ, wheelies in second! I'll get some updated pics, just had my license plate come in so all wiring is done on that too. Custom graphics soooooon

Welcome to KF and congrats on the nice looking ride.

Since you plan on running this ride on the streets more, think about a different fender since you removed/cleaned up the rear section. Unless of course the water and mud spray is not that bad.

You mean a different front or rear fender? I like the rear now, its short and aggressive looking. Plus it sorta made the back tire appear a little wider or something. If i'm running through rain the least of my worries will be a wet backside haha

For the front I installed a Cycra SM fender, looks nice and just BARELY clears the frame, not enough of a problem to worry about cutting it. It may touch the frame while i'm riding down the freeway but sitting still it's about 1/2 cm from it.

Terrible picture I took tonight, I need a real camera

On another note I ran out of gas tonight, like officially sputtered to a stop at a light. I was testing to see how many miles to a tank I am averaging since I do alot of highway riding.. 125 miles/ 2.0 gallons = 62.5MPG. Not bad considering the little motor is having it's *** kicked at freeway speeds. Gearing sounds like a cheap option but I don't want to sacrifice any grunt. I read a thread here that said the stock counter-sprocket was a 13T so I ordered a 14T and installed it. Found out quickly it was the stock size. I'll have to order the new one Tuesday

I initially wanted to replace the bars with some Pro Tapers but I adjusted the angle/height and I like how high they sit now. I guess I won't replace them until the stockers bend.

Next on the agenda will be the side panels. I have made fiberglass panels before and they can be tricky but alot of fun to make. If I get any free time this week i'll post some progress pics.

Here is a PS of what I am working towards:

I couldn't find a good image of the powercore4 so I used that one

62 mpg is respectable but being only able to cruise 125 miles would be different. I still have not tried the SM's but they sure look like a blast once set up correctly.

Here's a couple better lit pictures from my kitchen. I need to purchase a real camera, it's on my list of things to do this week.

Here's the tail on, I couldn't find a good way to snap a pic of just how bright those license plate lights are. They shine upwards and the whole underside of the bike has a bit of a white glow
