Default Looking for first bike

I have been looking at Kawasakis for a while now and think I've found a nice starter bike. On my local Craigslist there's a 1993 kawasaki zx6 for $700. It has 25,000 miles on it and also says it needs a starter. Just need some insight on if this is a good deal, and if that's a good bike to start on?

Thanks

Coult, it's only a good deal if it's in reasonably good shape and roadworthy. I would ballpark (if I was selling a hypothetical '93 ZX6 which I owned--but don't) around $1500. But, I would also replace the starter (myself) before I sold it, to make it more attractive to a potential buyer. I'm assuming this bike doesn't run in it's present form? Buyer beware!!! What happens if you buy this bike, spend $150 on a starter, and break a connecting rod when you hit the button (because the engine hasn't been run in 10 years)? If this is your first bike, unless you're real familiar with tools, you want it in operating condition so you don't get (very) frustrated. There are plenty of gently used bikes out there which MAY cost you a little more initially, but will SAVE you $ because they're "complete." Welcome to the Forums. I'd keep shopping, if I were you.

I like jeffs thinking. If you are mechanical and you already ruled out the leak down tests and the other over all conditions, then a new starter is no big deal for you. On the other hand, if you are unsure????, then this ride could prove to be a beginners nightmare and will tarnish your wanting to ride and continue to learn. I wish ya the best on your decision and experience.

I must agree with the rest. Dont jump into a first bike that may require a lot of work especially if you dont have experiance wrenching. ZX6 is a great first bike and if well taken care of dont let the miles scare you. If this bike requires it I believe the valve service interval is 7k miles I would ask when the owner had that $$$ job done ?

great starter bike but beware.....could be a money pit if you buy the starter and it still won't start.
