Default howdy

hello my name is now ninjachop cause thats what i put it as
anyway i just registered on here and should be getting a bike in about a month been checking out this board for a few days trying to decide what to get probably a kawasaki (which is why i am here) but cant decide on a 250 or 500 or what ive never driven a bike before
what is the best for a beginner i am almost 6 ft weigh about 180 but have been known to get to 200 want something with good gas mileage cause paying 3.50 for premium sucks when you get 18mpg ill use it for commuting but i like fast things and will probably race eventually

also i like racing cars and know about them but i dont know jack about bikes i drive an sti
i know this 250 vs 500 thing has been covered but i really would like some horsepower, gas mileage, top speed info 1/4 times also which handles better? i live in mountains thanks any info would be appreciated
if this is repost sorry

welcome to the forum.... well for a beginner bike you may want to go with the 500.... it has good power and forgiving enough for a beginner.... have you taken the safety course yet? if not, you might want to concider taking the class.... and make sure you get the right gear.... post some pics when you have the chance..... good luck on the bike search......

Welcome to the forums!! Mk covered it pretty good.... a 500 or a new kawi 650.. there is a right up on the new 650 that sprotrider just did... Awesome beginner bike, with enough high rpm power for experienced riders also. We had another new member get a 500 for a first bike and is doing really good on it!! GL man, and enjoy!!

Hey how's it goin and welcome.I'm new also but I will show you the same hospitality I was shown.I like the 500 I think you will outgrow the 250 very quickly because you are a bigger guy.If your not concerned about a Brand Spankin New bike I would personlly try to pick up an early 2000 model zx6.They are excellent bikes and are very plentiful. And it has enough juice to ruffle your feathers when you want.It won't bight off your hand like the zx10 and is light and nimble. There's my 1 1\2 cents can't find my other 1\2.

Welcome to the forums! Either the 250 or the 500 are great beginner bikes. You should go check them out, sit on them and then decide which one you are more comfortable with. Take a safety course though - you'll learn so much about riding. You can do a search on the net for info concerning gas mileage and what not (I'd do it for ya, but its Friday and I'm feeling lazy!)

Good luck and just remember - get whatever you are comfortable with.

welcome welcome

I too am a car guy and didnt know much about bikes when I joined here. Nice car ya got there.
I'm not sure exactly, but I think the 500 gets around 55mpg, which is alil better than your STi eh?
Whichever bike you get, I'm sure you will enjoy it, and keep the rubber side down.

0-60 in 5.75
1/4 mile in 14.6 @ 88mph
topspeed 105
horsepower 36
torque 18 ft/lbs
55-75 mpg

500
389 lbs
50 hp
torque 33 ft/lbs
12.8 @ 104 mph in the 1/4

I was getting 40+ mpg on the 88 zx 750 cruising at 80mph. Those were a good ride.
