Default Hello from the O N E

What's up? my name is Jeff and i'm a new rider from NE, if u don't know where that is it's kewl cuz this state is lame.

i'm 23yrs old and i just bought a 88 Ninja 750R as my first bike, i'm loving it so far tho unfortunately it's the end of the season again. Any help or info on these bikes would be awsome because i'm new to the bike world and am VERY interested in knowing all I can about, what i've been told, a rare bike. i'm getting the basics down and have been riding on the open road for only a couple days now. completely STOKED about taking it for a spin and just cruising and having fun!

all that i know of being done to the bike is new alternator and belt, sprockets, regular (if not too regular lol) tune ups, and some other odds and ends. it has 24k on the clock and runs like new, some road rash because the rider i bought it from was a first timer too but nothing too bad, and hopefully many many more miles and years to go!!

here are some pics if i can get this to work haha

Welcome to the KF family. My first recommendation is going to be to take the MSF course. It's a great program that will really help you out as a new rider. I took it after riding for 20 years and found out that I had some really bad habits that I needed to break. The second thing I'm going to recommend is to winterize it properly. Change the oil, fill the tank, and add some Stabil to the gas. Pull the battery out and store it in the house where it stays warm. Congratulations on the new ride. It looks nice. Keep it shiny side up, and rue the winter. Of course, you can always get some really warm riding gear, and ride year round! Your other option is to move to GA, where there is no such thing as riding season.

everything but the stabil is done already. what is the MSF course and is that offered in NE? i'm assuming it's Motorcycle Safety and yeah the battery will be kept warm and inside. Unfortunately the weather here in NE is as unpredicable as a hurricane so it'll be down and garaged in a few weeks since it's getting cold.

thanks for the comment on mybike, i'm proud of it tho it's not one of those 'cool new rides' a lot of people here sport. i'm just a fan of a more 'old school' bike and it was a steal when i bought it lol.

thanks again!!

Jeff

Welcome to the forums! Glad that the belt was changed. Not many know about the alternator belt. Congrats on the '88. That was my first Ninja as well.

i have had a lot of people argue with me that it is not belt drivin but i guess that proves it haha. yeah it's just too bad the season is coming to a close here and all it's been doing lately is storming.

The MSF is the Motorcycle Safety Foundation. They offer beginners and advanced riders courses. NE has the course, it's just a matter of finding one near you. I will post a list up for you of everything you need to know about NE's MSF locations. I can't tellyou how much it's going to cost, but the Harley dealers tend to me more expensive. The important thing is that you get the course which will teach you proper technique. Don't be like me. I rode for 20 years without any kind of formal training, and when I did get around to taking the course, I had a lot of bad habits that had to be broken. Plus, the course will allow you to get your license without taking either the written or the road test. Here's the information that I found about MSF near you...

MOTORCYCLE SAFETY
The Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has adopted as its basic motorcycle education course, the Motorcycle Safety Foundation beginning rider course entitled “MSF: Basic RiderCourse” (BRC). This course provides for a minimum of 14 hours of motorcycle instruction with at least 4 hours of classroom instruction and at least 10 hours of actual range time riding motorcycles. The course integrates the classroom instruction and the range driving such that following classroom instruction, the concepts are applied to and practiced on the range. The basic course includes the following topics:

Location of the controls and pre-ride procedures
Balance and control of the motorcycle
Riding skills and evasive maneuvers
Safety equipment and procedures
Effects of alcohol and drugs while operating a motorcycle
[ul][/ul]

Successful completion of any of the courses listed below will allow the graduate to have the DMV examiner waive both the written and drive test when application is made to obtain a license to operate a motorcycle. Course graduates may also be eligible for lower insurance rates. Enrollment is limited and courses often fill quickly, so register early. To obtain more information or to register, contact one of the state approved beginning rider course providers listed below.
