Default Stripped Kickstart

Hello all - I have a 2006 KLX300R and my sons friend layed it down with the kickstarter out. Well it stripped the gear internally and now it won't kick. I cannot locate a repair guide for this machine. I am a very mechanically inclined individual. How difficult would this repair be without amanual ? Does the entire engine need to come apart or can I get to this gearing without removing the jug ? Any advice or tips to look for ?

If it's just the idler gear in the clutch area, it shouldn't be too hard w/o a manual. The link below has great instructions on how to do this. I used them to check the idler gear on my '03. The rest of the planetklx site is great as well. Let me know if you have any questions.
