New to Forum. Need Advice with bike
Hello all I have just picked up a 2001 KLX 300 and am impressed and a fan of it.
Only issue is when I dump it on its side it doesn't like to start right away. Or even after I shut it off its hard to start hot. What can I do to remedy this?
Also I am looking for some upgrades to give her more power ( big bore kit, carb kit/ jetting, exhaust)?
Also has anyone here ever found an auto clutch for the KLX I would like one because I ride mountain trails and single track stuff just would be nice not to have it stall on some climbs.
Thanx for help

You probably want to check valve clearance for the start problem, and look up "hot start" mod for it. I thought the stock exhaust on that bike was okay already. It'll most likely be louder if you install aftermarket exhaust.

What is the "hot start" mod?
What could some other remedies be?

Welcome Forester. Hmmm, auto transmission, eh? I prescribe a "stair-stepper" and using a set of these hand grippers, 15 minutes each hand, 3x/day. (In Kawasaki green, of course.) This will cure the "auto-tranny" virus.

I don't know Jeff, those auto clutches are pretty darn sweet when trying to walk the bike up through those steep, nasty, too-narrow to ride sections of trail. I'd love one. And then exchange the clutch lever to pull the rear brake.

DICK!

Would screwing out the idle screw a turn or two help the hot starting?

Well finally found the answer on KLX Planet.
So the problem is when dumping or stalling bike leads to an over rich environment in the cylinder. Which would explain why leaving bike sit for a bit allows it to start again.
And for 40 bucks on can install a hot start valve. Drawing cooler air from from air box to cylinder. Easy mod.
Tomorrow morning all the free mods will be done. and hot start valve installed

Easy Killer, it was a reasonable response. Fitness and Strength have so much to do with riding, keeping it running and keeping it shiny side up.
