Great bike for trail riding. My 9 yr old (70 lbs) rides the roughest trails with very little problem. Stilllikes to squeeze the front brake too hard and has matching elbows to show for it. The stock suspension is much too stiff for a 70 lb rider (he gets 1/2inch of travel when riding), but might be okay for 100++ lb rider. The klx110 is bulletproof, just change the oil periodically. Plan to replace the solid shifter with a folding shift lever. I put Acerbis Minicross guards on the handlebars or plan to replace the hand levers also. You can find almost new bikes from people that buy them and don't use them. Just bought a 2006 (looks new) for $1000. Good luck!

Just got one for my 8 yo daughter. Lowered the front end and she’s good to go. Learning curve is pretty good. Throttle limiter is great if you choose to use it. Easy shifter. This bike should last her literally until she’s an adult, depending on how her interest in riding goes. I’ve even had a little fun on it.
Good luck.
