Good article.
Yeah, plenty of adjustment in the snails for a 13T, and based on where mine are for a 14T, I wouldn't dismiss the likelihood of a 15T.

Has anyone ran a 13/49-15/49 with a 112 chain?

13/42 with stock chain, stock chain rusts pretty easy(yes I oil it but I ride everyday in the rain) so I'm upgrading to a rk rx gold chain and 47 rear. Seems this combo you can run a 108 or 110, thinking I'll go with the 110 to allow larger CS in the future for touring.

Check the very first post. I'm editing it to compile all the replies.
I've ran the gearing combo, but with a 110-link chain.

Other than stock 14/42...
I've run 13/47, 14/47, and 15/47 with one chain and plenty of adjustment - I'll have to check length.

Here is a table showing ratios. PM me if you want this in Excel to play around with.

For nearly stock (snorkel removed), 95% dirt / 5 % highway, trail riding I like 13/51.

It is not too low for my riding. On wide open two-lane in southern AZ I have hit 55 mph according to GPS. It will cruise at 50 mph, level ground, pretty well when I need to get between trails. Otherwise I trailer everywhere.

I am pretty sure the chain is 108 links (12/15: no, it is 110). I bought a 120, tried it on the new sprockets, and cut it down to the right length. Had to move the stock chain guide forward. Had to get a "master link press tool" to close the o-ring master link.

On page 272 of the latest https://www.rockymountainatvmc.com catalog there is a chain sizing guideline of "Add one or two teeth to front or rear sprocket, add two links to the stock chain length" and vice versa.

I'd be interested to hear back on the number of links. There is no way I could get a 108-link to fit and I'm running 13/51 now (with a 110-link).

How far forward is your axle in the adjuster with the 13/51? I have a 4.00x18 mt43 rear tire, the diameter is larger than stock and almost rubs the splash guard w/ 13/42 gearing.

I currently use 13/47, 108 and i've been using it for about 3,000 KM and i'm going to change again soon, not sure to what. I don't like how slow the bike is without hitting up like 9000 RPM to get to 85 km/h, but for trail riding, I coudn'lt ask for better she always she wants to jump up in the air and go

I must be missing something. I've only had my 09 klx250s for about a month now, but right away I thought the previous owner geared it down since I felt 1st was almost useless and a shift to 2nd was immediately needed the second the clutch was out in first. I took off in second a few times my first real dirt ride. Upon closer inspection, 14-42 stock. I hated it on the little bit of road I have to do to hit trails. Yesterday I tried a 15 up front. At 65mph, it dropped the rpm's 1000 and on the trail, first felt a hair too tall, but at least it was usable instead of always needing second. But then I read on here people are dropping one on the front and adding 8 on the back. I feel like you'd be able to take off in third. I guess to each their own... I have a dj jet kit and klx mffler.
