Default ?valve clearance adjustment?

shim was 3.10 giveing clearance of .127 S0 3.10 + .127 - .19 = 3.037

I put a 3.00 in and am geting clearance of .203 Out of the .19 spec

Bike is back together and now I am paranoid about the Gap.Will this be ok?

I would go with the 3.05 to set the clearance in the middle of spec.

Thanks I know thats the right thing to do. I just was curious what sum of

the adverse affects or positive affect might be to my out of spec gap.

That one valve just won't be opening quite as wide as it should which is better than having a valve which stays open longer than is should (less clearance than spec). Valve clearance less than spec doesn't let the valve transfer it's heat to the valve seat = burned valve.

Also be sure to measure the both the new and old shim. I found they are not always exactly the marked dimension.

I will measure both and post if thay are a different dimensions.

Also do you try to clean the old glue off the gasket or just apply more over the old.

If you clean it how do you recommend I do that?

Yes this was the first valve check

3800 miles.

I did not think it needed it but I was installing a BB351

It was just out on the left intake

Both exits were still in the upper limits

Anyone got a specific model # on a valve shim kit they would recommend for this job? I am quickly approaching 7,500 miles and need to prepare for this project. Thanks.
