Default Two very important (not really) questions

Alright, I've been seeing this bike listed around in several different places. It's a 1989 KLR250, and it's listed for $600. Is it worth it, and how similar is it to the KLX? Mainly wanting to know if one of the klx big bore kits would work in it, or if it's just a downsized klr650. My brain isn't working right today because I can't find much about them.

Second question, where is the best place to buy plastics for the klx? I've got the 2009 sf plastics that are getting customized by friends, and I've got the 2010 sf plastics currently on the bike, that I'm about to stickerbomb. What I'd really like, is a set of the red or red/black plastics, but it seems that they are much less common and nobody gets rid of them.

Is it worth it? That's up to you. Similar to the KLX not really I haven't dug into the KLR engine but I doubt the KLX big bore kit would fit. The ad states it's hard to start, I'd suggest the valves need doing if they have never been done it will cost plenty to have it fixed at a shop. Ask me how I know.

If you really want red plastics why not buy white ones and paint them?

After watching a few videos, the big bore kit wouldn't work. For a second I though it might be able to work backwards, since the cam chain is on the left side, but it's a different setup. They do have big bore kits for it though. Hard to start when cold, but what bike isn't? I'm guaranteeing carb issues for a 30 year old bike, probably the valves too. I wonder if it will fall into the antique category.....if not then it's not worth it for no title.

White plastics and paint them.....why didn't I think of that? I'm having a day, I tell you what.

If u are going to ride in the dirt, painting the plastics is really going to look bad after the second off. Maybe after the first one. The paint will scrape off, the under-color will be coming through.

KLR250 is kick start only, so being hard to start is even harder. I had one, the KLX is MUCH better IMHO. Mind you I have not idea how much the KLR250 had been messed with. Rear suspension was a pogo stick.
