Default TM36-68 jetting, again

Ended up breaking down and ordering a TM36-68. Which one of you guys sniped me on Ebay this morning? Somebody got a deal.

So I've read every jetting thread I can find, listed everybody's setup, and am trying to decide what jets to get for initial tuning. In the process, something interesting popped out.

Almost everyone goes richer on pilot fuel (15.0 or 17.5 vs. 12.5)
Almost everyone goes leaner on needle jet (P6 vs P8)
Almost everyone goes richer on needle (#9EBY01-50 or 51 vs. #9DDZH06-50)
Almost everyone goes leaner on main jet (127.5 or 125 vs. 130)

So for the items with the most overlap, the general consensus results in going rich on one and lean on the other. Which prompts me to ask what is probably a really stupid question -

Did anybody ever just put the thing in there with the original factory setup?

I ran mine out of the box for a few months and it was useable but it did benefit from some tweeking. I ended up using Mustang's setup and it works really good for my elevation. My fuel mileage is better than the oe settings and it's very responsive. https://www.kawasakiforums.com/forum...e8/#post283247

I was hoping you would pop in, because it looked on the tuning spreadsheet that you may have run it stock. Also we are similar climate / elevation, big bore, cams, etc- I'm over in Brevard NC.

So is it correct that you ended up with -

Main Jet: 130
Pilot Jet: 17.5
Needle Jet: P-4
Needle: 9EBY1-50
Needle Clip: 3rd slot from top (middle position)
Fuel/Air Screw: 2 turns out
A/P Pump Timing: Starts at 1/8 throttle and stops at 3/4 throttle
A/P Squirter: Pointed directly at the needle (fuel should splash off of the needle)

Would you mind telling me a little about how you ended up there? Did the bike show bad habits, or did you just feel like there was more to be had, etc?
Do you need to change anything with the seasons or is it settled?

Thanks!

That's what I run with a KLX300 jug, full Muzzy exhaust, airbox mods (screen out and open top), with the exception of the main...I run a 127.5. I also had to change from the 1.0 OEM air jet to a .9. I had a lean stumble with the 1.0 air jet. My altitude is about 1700'. I go to a 125 main when I go to high altitude...CO or UT mountains, necessary for me starting at about 7500'. In the western high deserts that get no higher than about 8-9K in just short amounts, the 127.5 works great.

What are the details of your bike? I've been wanting to order the TM36-68 but haven't done it yet, my engine is currently stock.

2009 SF
Bill Blue 351
Web Cams 101
Head work
FMF Megabomb / Q4 / insert removed
Uni filter, no lid
Case saver modded to clear 16T sprocket
Diablo Rosso II

I just did the mod to fit the 16T. Riding this bike to New Orleans (and hopefully back) with friends in April... 15T will go back on after that. It's a dream on the highway. 6k RPM at 65. Pulled through 85MPH/7850RPM and still accelerating strongly when I let off. My buddy with the Multistrada 1200 thinks its cute...

Anyway, I guess I will go ahead and drop it in stock for the hell of it, but have a 127.5, P6, P4, #9EBY01-50, and 17.5 on hand.

Sorry about the delay in replying-It ran pretty well except it was a tad rich overall. I also forgot that I did change the air jet to an 0.9 and it runs cleanly. It doesn't seem to be upset when I head up to higher elevation (4K) from the 2K around the house. It starts fine when cold on the choke and will idle fine off choke after about 30 sec.
I really enjoy the asphalt sections when I'm running around the woods- the TM 2's are very predictable sliding on the edge and I am very comfortable slithering through the twisties. I bet your SF is a blast buzzing up 215 to the Parkway. Ride safe
