Default For those with 1 1/8" bars

I've been mulling over whether to go with fatbars or stick with standard size. Ive never had a fatbar on a bike before. I've read over pros and cons of both but still unsure. I'm set on Protaper CR High bend. I'm 6'3; sounds like these would benefit my size.

From what I read the standard size bars are still damn strong. I certainly fall a good deal. I'm prepared to get a new clutch cable and mounting kit if going larger.

So what benefits and drawbacks will a fatbar have specifically with a KLX?

Thanks for your opinions

Unneeded IMHO, been watching the bike industry increase it's sales by moving everything to 31.8 from 25.4 handlebars. When I needed a shorter stem, I had to upsize my bars in order to get the proper length stem, which was only available in 31.8. So I needed to spend more money.
Which is what you will do...for the bars + the adapter pieces to make them fit. Just get the 7/8" and bolt them up.
I have the 7/8" CR Hi bend. I've beat on them relentlessly and they are fine...as are my now useless 8yo carbon 25.4 bicycle handlebars.
If you want the bigger bars then do it, I just don't think it's necessary unless you are Magilla Gorilla and riding big jumps or drops.

It's nice to not have a cross bar...... the only downside I found is there is slightly less room on the ends for levers, grips & switches

I'm gonna convert to Protaper contours, just waiting on the adapter/riser. Mainly for visual appeal. Call me vain...riders are a must for taller guys.

I like big bars. The bars seem stronger and the adaptor raises them an extra 1/2 inch. Then the benefit for more room to work with on handguards and such. The only extra buy in price that goes with them is the adapter $30 and possibly a longer clutch cable, as the Contours are now the same price as 7/8th bars.

Thanks guys, I appreciate it.

For those of you using risers, which brand/model# are you using?

I'm a fan of Rox pivoting risers, usually 2" height. Pricey but great adjustment options.

+1 but I had to go to longer cables. (custom motionpro +4 throttle & OEM '08 KLR650 clutch)

Thanks for the input guys. Think I'll go with the 7/8 bars. If I bend them in the future, then I'll know I'll need thicker bars.
