Stolen and recovered - broken ignition and triple clamp
Hey guys, I haven't been around the forum in a long while - busy with life.
But I'm back for some advice after some idiots stole my bike and then dumped it not far away. (unsure why, I wonder if they just ran out of gas)
Anyhoo, they not only destroyed the ignition switch and gas cap locks, they broke the bloody triple clamp while they were at it.
Anyone have suggestions as to what I should do next?
I'm thinking either I replace the triple clamp and ignition or find some aftermarket solution to replace them. (or just bypass the switch, but I would like SOME security...??)
Aren't triple clamps super expensive? 2006 KLX250S

BTW, doesn't matter how many locks you use, or how thick they are.
It's just a minor slow down for two idiots and a grinder :-p

Welcome back Kawi Wawi. Sorry to hear about the theft, breakage, etc. That really sucks.
Your pics aren't showing up.
I'd follow ebay for a while to see if some used ones came up. Are they reparable? Someone may know here what years of KLX would work and/or if a KDX model fits.
If you decide to bypass the ignition switch, message me and let's go off-line with the discussion. I can help you out here but don't like to post up details of the ignition security system.

I think I got the pictures figured out above, they should show up now...
Looking closer at the triple clamp, I think the broken part is just a "support hoop", not really doing a lot to hold the ignition in place.
The thieves also broke the front fairing where it attaches to that tubular frame.
I'm thinking I may take this opportunity to swap out the whole front headlight/fairing assembly with some aftermarket product, and a Trailtech Vapor.
I got the bike running today by connecting some points on that ignition contact plate (the same way they hot-wired it). Pretty easy actually, except for how tight that space is behind the dash cluster.
So, it looks like I'll probably be buying
- factory ignition switch
- aftermarket headlight + fairing
- aftermarket gauge cluster (Vapor?)
- aftermarket fuel tank

Sounds like a good plan. I have the Trailtech X2 headlight and vapor. For these to fit I needed to remove the factory ignition and cut off the "support hoop." Just FYI because if you're keeping the ignition, the X2 may not be the way to go.
You may be able to find a stock fairing on ebay. I sold mine to a member here.

I have an ignition switch, gas cap, helmet lock along with matching key (maybe two, not sure) for sale. I also have a complete fork assembly and would sell just the triple clamp. PM me if interested.
