Default Stock spring color

I'm looking to get my bike ready for Colorado in a few weeks, but I blew my shock out recently and haven't gotten around to fixing it. Looking around I think it may be cheaper to buy a used shock of eBay than to rebuild mine. The particular shock I've found though has a black spring instead of the stock white spring. I can't find any pics of a 2010 klx250s with a black spring stock, which leads me to believe it's not. Am I right?

Probably a supermoto shock, which I believe is shorter. But your shock is rebuildable and can be improved with fresh fluid or even more with different valving.

I'd think rebuilding would make total sense and not be that expensive. It is prime time to improve the shock over any stock unit, here are some sources for information:

TNC did a revalve and new spring in this thread on this forum.

There are other sources of information, but the fact is you'd be better off spending the money on a good set up than doing a different shock.

I take it when you said blown you meant it leaked out oil at the shock shaft seal. If you took it apart you could call KYB with dimensions of the seal and get new one. Heck you might be able to get one at a hydraulics repair company for that matter. Having been in hydraulics repair I can tell you there are catalog listings of seals by size and odds are it is available.

The '09 SF (supermoto) spring is red, if that's any help.

I took a good hard look at the listing and it has a sticker on the reservoir, you can only see about a centimeter of it but I saw a red oval line which matches up perfectly with the moto pro logo, so I think the black spring is an upgraded one from moto pro. The seller insisted it was stock but I'm sure it's moto pro.

Then you might have a reworked shock, which could be a good deal if it is a KLX shock that fits..

It's from a 2010 klx250s, it's identical, just with a black spring, no idea about internals.

I found that shock on eBay and that spring is/looks really long. With the stock spring when the preload rings are fully backed off there are still threads above the adjusters. IIRC

Good eye spotting that Moto Pro sticker.

Think I should go for it? I made an offer of 120 and it was automatically declined.
