Was there a recall number, some identifier that I could give the dealer to reference this recall?

If yes, it would be awesome if the first post could be updated with that info.
You can go to the Kawasaki site and plug in your VIN to see if there is any outstanding recall work needed on your bike.

Relax....If the recall was performed, the dealer/mechanic "should have" stamped a dot next to the VIN number on the headtube. All you have to do is call any Kawasaki dealer and have the service department run your VIN number. It is just a simple spacer install on the mounting bolts of the gas tank "if" your bike measures out of the indicated range.

Hello, I just bought a used 2010 KLX250S here in Canada. I have been enjoying the bike for the past couple months with no tank leaks as far as I can tell. but I just saw this recall when I was checking out these forums.

I called down to my dealer to get them to run the VIN to see if it has been fixed, but there system did not turn up any results on the bike. I took it down for them to have a look at it and turns out it's an American bike...They also took a look at my tank and the repair/correction has not been done to the tank mount.

Since it's an american bike they cannot get Authorization from Kawasaki Canada to repair it with no charge...Either I have to take it to the states or pay 100ish to get it repaired by my dealer.

How serious is this recall? Do I actually stand a chance of getting blown to bits? is it worth a $100 or so to get it fixed?

Thanks.

See if the Canadian dealer can get the kit which shouldn't cost much. Most of that 100$ would be labor. The main part of the recall is the shim under the front of the tank. If there is a gap just glue a few layers of inner tube on the bumper to take up the slack.

Cool

Don't even mess with that stuff. Just put on an IMS and be done with it.

Thanks for the replies. I will talk to the dealer about getting the kit and just installing it myself.

If I go with the IMS tank route do I no longer have to worry about the old mounts at all?

The IMS tank has the mounts molded into the plastic so there's no chance of the same thing happening. The dealer glues on a 1/2"x1/2"x1/4" piece of rubber under the front of the tank so all the weight is off the side tank mounts.

I know this is old, but I was wondering if that $50 included the three or four times removing the carb to rejet? If so, sounds like a good deal. I'm betting that $170 at the dealer is relying on the fact they will have to pull the carb more than once, easily hitting 2-3 hours work.

So if you live close enough to me I might take you up on it to do the 38.

Does anyone know the part number for the kit and if it is the big round rubber support and the straight side ones? Thanks!
