Default Puncture repair, while out

Hi,

On my other bike, the FZ09, i have a horrible nail stuck in its tubless tire. I have a plug kit on order, that contains co2 and mushroom plug to repair it. Being tubeless, its pretty straightforward.. I won't need the c02, cos the bike is already home.

However, it got me thinking though, what would i do if i was out on my klx250sf and got a flat ? I typically ride way out remote, when i'm on the klx250sf and could very well be stranded. Being the tires are tubed. A plug kit will not work.

What are our options if we get a nail? I have the Co2 spare to re-inflate... I guess its probably going to be one of those green slime sealants, will it not? Are they good to go on tubed tires though? as in keeping the slime within the tube.

Slime does work in tubes. However, I think your best bet is a set of irons and a spare tube or two. It always pays to have an extra tube.

Not sure what size your front rim is on th sf but on my s I just carry one light duty front tube and that can shoved into the rear tire in an emergency. I carry tire irons and a hand pump. I like the hand pump because it's unlimited air.

How exactly are you going to remove the tire though out in the wilderness? Does the toolkit that comes with the bike, have a tool to remove the rear ?Are you just going to lay your bike down on the ground ?

Can't you just slime it up til you get home and in the comfort of some tools ?

rode the klx250sf carefully with the flat to the repair shop...ride straight and easy...

I hate Slime with a passion, not saying it may not work but I just hate cleaning the stuff. I think the factory tool kit has enough to remove the rear tire, carry a spare cotter pin too. I think you need to buy a wrench or two for the front. As far as being able to service it, to get the bike off the ground use the kick stand and a rock or big stick and bias the balance towards the front or rear. Any one ever used 550 cord and a tree branch to suspend the bike an inch or two? I've always wondered if that would work.

I'd be keeping my weight off of whichever end tire is flat as much as possible

I'm surprised TNC or someone hasn't jumped in with Tubliss.

OP: carry the proper wrenches, spoons, spare tube(s), patches, pump, and learn how to do trail side changes.

if your going out riding far from help. be preparred with tools and tubes and practice changing in your garage before you need to do it on a trail. starting with ultra heavy dudty tubes and rim locks is a good start too. I wouldnt depend on slime it failed my friend on a trail once luckily we had tube tools and pump.
