Opinions & WTB KLX 250sf skid plate...
2009 model, wanting a skid plate with a high level of coverage / protection.
Any preferences in specific manufacture / brand?
Apology if a WTB thread is not to be here.
Have one to sell? Let me know. TY.

I was dead set on the Emperor Racing skid plate. Then came across a brand new from manufacturer Riccochet on eBay for a steal - And olive drab color to boot (matches my bike nicely). I went with the Riccochet and couldn't be happier. It's definitely tough. But I have managed to put a nice dent in it while "rock surfing". Considering the thickness of it, I can't imagine what would have happened to the bike without it.
A lot of people like the Emperor. I think either skid plate would do great.

Outstanding, thank you kindly for the advice. After looking up your suggestions, these units do look very formidable. I like the "wings" for added case protection for sure.
I'm leaning to the Riccochet, its gauge looks substantial, and the color option I like a great deal too!
Is it anodized or painted? How does that hold up? My riding will be 70% pavement and the rest random dirt / gravel roads. Not planning to take my new little Supa-motard into a trials bike / log / rock environment. I like it waaaaay too much to nut it up.
Off topic... is there a .pdf manual here? (2009 KLX250SF) Thanks! Edit - found it.

I went with the Emperor Racing one - it's definitely a tough skidplate, and has the 'ears' on the sides. I ride 'hard enduro' style and that skid plate has been bashed on rocks and roots numerous times. I'm certain that it's saved me from serious damage a number of times. I suspect that for your type of riding, the Emperor will be overkill, though.

Roger that, I agree, those ears are a fabulous idea. I'm all about the mindset that having it an not needing it is much better than needing it an not having it.
The model of this scoot being an SF does lend itself best to pavement and firebreak roads IMHO. However, I've not stopped exploring the woodlands of my state. I do enjoy the technical sections of rugged terrain very much, which is likely the result of owning Trials type / low geared / stump ad rock crawling motorcycles as a kid.
Now, being honest, I won't take my 2009 new to me, (as of 3/30/2016) into the mountain goat region, but it may randomly go into areas where racing enduros are better suited, but only after a tire change of course.
I'm going to take your advice and go big. Having a great undercarriage protection device that guards both the engine block and side cases for $125 bucks is cheap insurance / money well spent to me.
