KLX250 was sold in Australia from 1979 - current.

I am not sure what your asking. Has anyone put street tires on it? (do you mean 17 inch supermoto or just street oriented tires on it?)

Do you mean has anyone registered one of these for the road? In that case, yes, I have seen one of these 250Rs plated. They are nice light bikes.

Is this the same bike as a 2006/2007 KLX 250?

Thanks!
I am pretty sure this is the 1994-96 KLX250R that was sold in the United States. I've seen one of these purple framed bikes. It looks just like the frame/engine of the 2006-07 bike. It's a LOT lighter. A year later that would become the 300R.

Side by side the '94 and my 2006 looked pretty much the same. It was shocking how light and easy to kickstart the older bikes are. I guess it's the lack of starter and simplified wiring loom that makes the difference. The claimed weight of this bike is around 230 lbs. I was stunned at how light it felt.

One of these with plated and with a BB kit would be the ultimate woods KLX.

THANK YOU taxonomy that is exactly the info I was looking for!

1994 - 1996 fits perfectly with the time frame my friend had the bike. It was around 1996/1997 and was just a year or two old when he bought it from the dealer (used). It was indeed a purple frame bike.

Amazing I could find nothing about this bike, and even here on an active KLX forum few were aware of this bike in the states. I do see them come up every now and then on Craigslist so, I was pretty sure they were sold in the states. I wonder how well they sold in '94 - '96? Amazing how few seem to know much about this bike (or even it's existence here in the US).

Interesting how it's so much lighter than the 2006/2007's. Aside from electric start I wonder how they shaved so much weight? It was a factory dual sport with lights, gauges, key, etc.

Thanks again.

The U.S. version was not a dual sport in 94-96. It was the start of the KLX off road line, going to a 300cc engine as I said earlier. The first actual street legal one in the U.S. was in 2006. Of course it may be that you don't live in the U.S., no location given.

Sorry, I meant the KLX250 liquid cooled line. I remember that air cooled one. A bit of a slug for an engine, but the chassis and suspension was pretty good for the time.

AWE C'MON, gimme a break... I'm in the U.S.

The first 250 liquid cooled model for us was 1994 and was the KLX250R off road. The first KLX250 dual sport was in 2006. But that was here in the U.S. Where the question was raised.
