Off Road Wheels for KLX250SF?
Hi Everyone..
I'm picking up a sweet deal on a '09 KLX250SF on Saturday.
I want to do the opposite of what most people do. I'd like to find a 18" rear and 21" front to put some knobbies on so I can use it to do a little off road riding with my g/f's son.
Of course I could pay a fortune and buy new OEM parts to do this, but it seems to me there *has* to be another KX or KLX model that has wheels that are the same. Is there?
The main problem I see is that the SF model has larger rotors than the S. Which means that in order to have a swap and play setup I will need to use the SF rotors and of course those rotors - and probably the sprocket - will need to bolt on to whatever wheels I end up.
What years of wheels should I be looking for? Or should I just call warp9 and see what they can do?
There is definitely a 351 kit and FMF pipe in this bike's future, and soon. They are just a little too anemic for me stock. I've also heard of a bunch of free and cheap mods for these bikes. I found the FAQ so I'll be doing some reading.
Thanks,
Michael

if anybody has good info on this let me know. my girlfriend has the sf and would like to do the conversion also. she has been running avon distanza front and gripster rear. they seem to work ok, however she is seeing the limitations to this setup.

Part Numbers!
Okay, so during my searching I have come up with the following part numbers:
2009 KLX250SF Black hubs:
Front: 41034-0043-18R
Rear: 41034-0053-18R
2009 KLX250S Silver Hubs:
Front Hub: 41034-0051
REar Hub: 41034-0044
2007 KLX250S
Front Hub: 41034-1243
Rear Hub: 41034-1216
Does anyone know why the hub part numbers changed for 2009? They are unique part numbers that only fit S and SF models. Will 2009 S hubs fit on a SF?
The 2007 KLX-S front hub part number only fits '06 and '07 KLX250S models.
The 2007 KLX-S REAR hub fits TONS of different bikes. Here is the list:
1995-2006 KDX200
1997-2005 KDX220R
1991-1994 KDX250
1994-1996 KLX250R
2006-2007 KLX250S (Obviously)
1997-2007 KLX300R
1993-1996 KLX650R
Hopefully this list will help someone looking for wheels/hubs to build supermoto wheels or whatever.
Is there *anyone* located in the Seattle area somewhere who would be willing to let me look at their hubs/wheels and maybe even try to see if they will fit my SF model?
Thanks,
Michael

Cuz of the thicker spokes?
I'm also looking for a second set of reasonably priced DS wheels....
Cheers,
Pete

I also have the KLX250SF and I want to occasionally take it off road, or at a minimum have
better traction on gravel roads. Since I don't want to spend $900 to $1000 on a new set of
dual sport rims and tires (not this year anyway), I looked around to see what possible tires
might fit and work with my existing motard rims. I found the following html links discussing
using offroad tires on a DRZ400SM. Here are the links I came up with. Note this option requires
using rear 17" for both the front and rear on the KLX. This is definitely not the ideal setup for
proper off-roading, but it's better than street tires on loose material.
Link 1: DRZ400SM with Maxxis 6006 Tires (130/80-17) for front and back with the photos shown below.

Here are some usefull charts and figures regarding motorcycle tires.
I ordered the Kenda 270's and I will let you know how it works. Note the 270's are supposedly a 50/50 tire which is what I was looking for. I wanted something with more bite than the Avon Distanzia's could provide.
