Default Longer clutch and throttle cables needed.

Hi guys,

I am new to this site. I have a 2014 KLX 250S and tried to install Pro Taper Evo Bar with bar raiser only to find out that my throttle and clutch cables are not long enough. Are there longer clutch and throttle cables avaliable? If so, where can I get them? Thanks

Alex

Default Longer clutch cable

I just installed an '08 KLR650 clutch cable (p/n 54011-0556) on my '09 KLX250S. Went on quickly and easily. I had previously installed Pro-Taper handle bars, 3/4" risers and Tusk Lever Guards; which caused the clutch to disengage when turning a slow, hard left no matter how much I adjusted the OEM cable. My disengagement issues are now gone. Cost $14.17, plus shipping from No Limit Power Sports. The '08 cable is a different design (although the connects at either end of the cables are identical), but it works just as smoothly as the OEM.

I added 1.5" risers using KX hi-bends and was able to use the KLX300 clutch cable. It's not as long as the KLR cable but it does have all of the correct bends. On the throttle cable you are screwed-I wasn't able to find any OE cables that would just drop in. I ended up having Motion-Pro make a +3" pull cable and I modified a pre 2008 KLR650 push cable to fit in the housing. You have to cut off a steel adjuster housing from the handlebar end to make it fit. The pull cable has to have the molded plastic guide so you are stuck using a custom cable.
This may help- https://www.kawasakiforums.com/forum...-cables-42510/

Thanks for the replies guys. I forgot to mention that I live in Malaysia and the KLX version I get over here is the EFI version. I have sorted out the clutch cable with the KLX 300 clutch cable as suggested but still need the throttle cable. I wonder if Motion Pro make cables that can fit the EFI models?

I bet Motion Pro can fabricate nearly any cable. They have some templates to draw it out. I sent them my stock throttle cable as I had time and asked for a new one 3-inches longer.

If it uses the same throttle housing as the carb'd version then they should be able to fix you up. That was the thing that kept me from using an off the shelf cable for some other bike. The 09+ bikes have a molded guide incorporated into the cable that has to be in place for it to work with the stock throttle housing.

I cut that plastic piece off and turned my throttle upside down and that gave me enough reach. Mickey Mouse yes, but the aftermarket for this bike leaves a lot to be desired. I have a quick turn throttle, so the plastic piece had to go.

Just wanted to add my $.02 for someone searching like I was. # 54011-0556 did not work for me. I use the KLX300 which is about 1" longer than my 09 SF cable, but I could not adjust the housing on # 54011-0556 to go short enough to hook up, I even modded it to remove 1 nut off the clutch side (to make it shorter) and still about 1" not enough slack to hook up the cables. maybe you can wrestle the clutch lever (at the clutch) and force it forward to hook up, but it was impossible for me. Went back to the KLX300 cable after trying for several hours.
