Pretty steep uphill, this trail was pretty much up the edge of a ridge, drops on both sides . If you hit one of those rocks wrong it will roll and send you off the trail. Actually my bike went off the trail, I landed on my butt on the trail.

Pretty easy to use too.

Attention Dan888:

It's been a couple of years. Are you still using the Knobby Knife? If so, are you happy with it and would it be a worthwhile addition to a Christmas wish list?

Cheers!

Hey there Scott, I think i would. I wouldn't like coughing up the $60 to buy one, but I would be able to justify the cost, by looking at how it would prolong the life of my tire s. ( This site automatically turned the word "tires" into an advertising link!??)

It really depends on how often you change tire s. I used to shake my head at a buddy of mine who would change tire s out once the ***** got rounded off. The ***** on these tire s often had about 75% of their original height left. Now I'm not a very sensitive guy, (until TNC starts making fun of me ) but i remember being surprised at how well my bike hooked up one particular time, after I put a new rear tire on. That sold me. Fresh knobbies really seem to make a difference in the soil i ride the most. Black dirt with quite a bit of clay in it.

Ive used the knobby knife, you guys helped me win, 4-5 times now, and I have loaned it out to buddies twice. I would say that my combined uses have saved me at least one rear tire purchase. Its nice to be able to hook your buddies up too.

Hey are you sure you aren't just getting a lump of coal for Christmas?

hahhaa.
Happy holidays,
Dan

TNC is a jerk. Ban him!

I may very well get a lump of coal, but that doesn't stop me from making a wish list and this is one of those things I would use, but probably not buy for myself. It also may not prolong tire purchases by much, but it would make some rides much more enjoyable to catch some traction. The buddies would of course use it too.

Thanks for checking in, Dan. Happy Holidays to you and yours.

I would think an exacto or other hobby knife with a new blade would also work but by design your more likely to keep your fingers with the purpose made tool.

Yup, I've used a torch and a box cutter with good results. This is not a new thing, guys been siping and notching 4x4 tires for years.
