Default KLX300 Tank on a KLX250?

Will the fuel tank from a KLX300R work on the 06-07 KLX250? The only difference I can see is the side plastics are different where they bolt to the fuel tank. The 300 tank holds 2.6 gal and the 250 only 1.9 gals.

Thanks for the link. So it looks like it will fit if using the shrouds. There was mention you would have to loose the rad fan. Really? That's a no go for me.

I went with the Acerbis too. Seems like a lot of trouble and maybe expense with the 300 OEM tank to get basically a half gallon of extra fuel. With the Acerbis at 3.7 gallon...and keeping your fan...you can go just about anywhere in the hinterlands and be guaranteed to get back to camp.

I was considering the Acerbis but I like the look of the OE plastics. Another concern would the Acerbis tank work with the TM36-68 carb?

Yes, it will with minor mods of deleting the return cable and trimming a bit off the carb actuator. Works just fine.

Yep, a lot of us are running Acerbis tanks with the TM36-68.

I'm running my return cable and really don't want to loose it. Based on the pic would the Acerbis tank work. You can see that I've cut down the the return cable stay.

Can't see the pic for some reason, but I don't think there's any way to run the return cable linkage. The return cable feature really isn't necessary with a linkage/slide carb like this. I can almost see a better reason to keep it on a vacuum slide carb, but even then it's more lawyer driven these days. Back in the "old days" with our funky throttle designs and older round slide carbs, the cables didn't lie flat to the bar and would get snagged...making things interesting once in awhile...and we had no return cable. The TM36-68 has a stout return spring, and our cable(s) hug the handlebar. It's just not an issue as long as you pay the tiniest attention to routing the pull cable.
