KLX300 Street legalizing???
Hey i was doing some...uhhhh....research and noticed that with all the mods we are doing to our(uhh i mean your[:@]) bikes we are essentially trying to turn them into KLX300s by the average of mods. there is a great disire for a larger tank, kickstart, cleaner rear-end, lighter weight, etc... so i was thinking if a stock KLX300 comes with ALL of these previously listed thing AND weighs less than a KLX250s, why dont we see more people "enduroing" 300s? even with the Blinkers, plate, and mirrors it would still weight less than the KLX250. OR is there WAY more regulations than I am aware of? I need some insight people.

Because a lot of states are not only trying to keep off road bikes, off road, but they are also trying to go backwards and deny previously dual sported bikes new licenses. Its always better to just buy the bike that doesn't say "for off road use only" and stick with a true street legal DS.

Dido deej but he has a ponit there i have the KLX300R and i amthinking of maybe dualsporting it. but he is right it just depends on the state and the regs. in that state. but it would just be easier to buy a dual sport because you have to
-put all the parts on the bike that make it street legal
-get the bike registered for that state.
-then a get a liscense plate for it
-then take a drivers safty class to get you liscense
see how just buying a KLX250 or just a dual sport in general would be much easier. but if you have a off road bike and dont want to buy a new bike and the satate will let you then it would be ok i guess good luck. you had a good point. it just depends on what you want the bike to do.

You can still do it here in Texas, but its a pain in the ****. The KLX300 would need DOT tires, silencer, baja kit with blinkers, lights etc and pass a smog test which I doubt it would. Then you have to deal with getting it titled for street use.

Not to mention if you take msrp's on both bikes brand new than add the the cost to add the items to make the 300 street legal, you could buy a 250s and put a 300 kit on it add a 13 tooth sprocket and probablystill be less than the 300. The 250 also has the magic button which adds weight but convenice. You also get to leave the dealer with a big smile on your face as you pull out of the parking loton the seat of the 250 not with the 300 in the back of your truck.
