Klx250s klx 300R motor swap.
I have a klx 250s with a bad head that I've been looking to replace, well I just picked up a 05' klx 300R for dirt cheap that is in Damn near immaculant shape in every way.
Now the debate I'm having with myself is:
-swap frames to make the 300R street legal with my 250s frame. (looks like for the most part everything is the same) minus electrical/the lack of a starter on the 300r, tach/speedo and keyed ignition.
-find a legal loophole to title the 300R for the street in FL.
-sell it all off and buy a clean klx250s.
Need some input! Has a 300R been swapped onto a 250s before?

OK...with the '06/'07 model KLX250S, you have the same basic travel as a KLX300R, so that's a good thing. Running the KLX300 frame comes with some headaches via lack of important tabs and such that will become more evident if you try to use that frame...even forgetting registration issues that you might have in a given state. If it were me, I'd take the whole top end off the 300...everything above the cases...and install it on the 250. If there's nothing wrong below the cylinder of your engine, this would be easy. If your top end problem was a result of lack of oil and you're worried about your 250 bottom end, I'd split the cases and use the 300 crank.
If you don't already have a pipe and such, using parts or all of the 300 pipe might be a good deal. I'd probably also swap out the fork and shock, as there are subtle differences that make the 300 a tad better in the suspension performance.
