KLX 650 I picked up

good lord TNC, words, escape my mind. Please tell me you repainted that at some point? haha
KLX678 I have the manual cam chain tension, was already on the bike when I got it (unknown mileage, no speedo). The R is alot of fun with the short swingarm, it will try to suck the rear end under if you take a corner and accelerate with a decent lean. Give it more throttle and your learning how to pull a wheelie while turning hahaha.
My goal for the bike is to be able to handle the highways at about 65mph and be able to go on easy/medium trails. Other than some more bags and a better seat it's basicly there. Needs a better headlight setup than what i currently have.

I don't know for sure, but if the gear box has the same ratios as the C, do C model gearing with the biggest front sprocket you can run to get the number values. That will allow gentle trails, but you can always drop a tooth or two on the front if you do want to do the trails.
As for the seat, get it done to your liking by someone. I've never read anything good on any other aftermarket seats. One way to deal with it short term is to get the Stearns ATV seat pad from WalMart for $20 available at some stores or on line. Ugly, but guys swear by it.

Red...how dare you! I paid good money for that plastic. That KLR was an '01 model that had the fugly army green color. I sold that stuff to a friend for a good price and bought that Barbie plastic new from the shop where I used to work...at shop cost, of course. I also have a nice pair of Alpine Stars MX boots in a matching aqua and purple motif. I get a lot of admiring looks from other riders out on the trail...and also when I go by the bus station.

Hey the 80's & 90's were cool. Remember everything was "Hot Pink"? Case in point. My 1987 Suzuki Quadracer and 86 Ford ranger...what was I thinking.....and dont make me post a picture of me in my "Hammer Pants" LOL

The R model had the same hubs as the KLX300/KDX200 and similar to some of the MX bikes, but the hubs on the MX bikes don't have the speedo drive. The C used a cush drive rear hub.
I am putting 17s on my C model and going mainly street/dirt roads with it. I have the 250 for the tougher stuff. The 650 is just too big/heavy for my size for more serious off road. The bike will take a 140 on the rear, with spacing or sprocket offset it can go wider, but not really needed for performance. Just for those who want the fat tire look. My bike actually does fine with the 17/21, but I want to go with some decent street tires for the wear and I know a 140/70-17 and 110/70-17 will do peachy.
