Default Jetting recommendations for stock exhaust

Well it finally happened. The guy found the jet kit.

A fella on the local Usedstuff.com had the dynojet kit up for sale, minus the 128 main and DJ needle. Everything else is there, ie the other jets and the spring.

Anyway, my previous klx250s experience included fmf q4 pipes... not stock exhaust. I'm keeping the stock pipe for now, so I don't really know where to start for tuning. I know the kit has instructions but those instructions include the DJ needle.

Given I won't have the DJ needle to work with, I was hoping a carb guru could suggest a starting point for the main jet.

p.s.I have a kdx200 snorkel that I kept from a previous sale, so let any recommendations consider that.. Deep down I knew I would be back.....

The needle is the whole enchilada.. And DJ won't sell it separately.. Your kit is missing the exact components you'll need! The parts you do have are only worth a few dollars if you had to order them from DJ..

You'll be needing a brand new DJ 2152 kit. Then install it as per directions.

Crap. This is very disappointing to hear. The new dynojet kit is 69.00 canadian, and this fella was selling the kit minus the 128 main and the needle for 40.00 CAD.

My initial thought was that the n1tc needle could be used in lieu of the DJ needle...or oem..... given my circumstance..

So what you are saying is, there is no good jetting combo with the stock needle, or the n1tc needle, and the DJ jets. If this is true, I might not even bother with jetting the bike for now....

I've had a small fortune's worth of dual sport bikes over the last 6 years and I'm determined to not fall back into old habits... chucking cash at bikes for marginal gains..... if I wanted that much more h.p. I could have bought a dr650 for the same price. I know full well the limits of the klx250s. I had one all hopped up on internet money magic, and one day this '07 might have the same mods, but for now the budget is tight, out of wisdom... not logistics

Marginal gains!! lol.. Our "new findings" - For the price of a slipon and a DJ kit ( As well as doing the MCM, and running a lidless airbox.) you'll get radical increases - in fact, a whole new bike.. Not exactly "chucking cash".. Research all my dyno chart and fueling threads for proof..

N1TC is very different from either the DN0352 or DN0228 DJ needles. I only know how to properly use it with lidless, max power, CVK setups..

IMO, there is not much reason to redo your CVK with the parts you have now.. All anyone in here can offer is opinions on possible setups - So, I'll have a go at it.

Install the DJ spring on the slide, if you are at/near sea level, put in the DJ132 main jet.
Your DONE!.. The idea is: Stock needle will control the DJ132 (through your snorkel) well.. And the lighter DJ spring will allow the slide to more quickly present the new fuel curve to the engine..

Stock KLX with KDX snorkel

Parts For a Do-It-Yourself Re-Jet
Description Kawasaki part number
#125 main jet 92063-1069 110 Dyno Jet per the Jets r Us chart linked below
#128 main jet 92063-1074 112.5 Dyno Jet
#38 pilot jet 92064-1050 Higher altitude over 2400
#40 pilot jet 92064-1108 Works for us at around 1000
KLX N1-TC adjustable needle 16009-11912 2nd notch from top
KLX needle clip 92037-1401
KLX needle spacer 92143-1667
KDX220 Snorkel 14073-1577

For jetting comparison Keihin to Dyno Jet here is a chart from Jets r Us.

Both my brother and I are running second notch from the top on the needle, he ran a 128 main, I did a 125 - we both run the Dial-A-Jet, the reason I went one size leaner. He had ridden with the 128, said the DAJ smoothed out fuel delivery. We both went 40 pilot, worked at 2.5 turns out so I never screwed with it.

More information for stock hop up in the KLX250S Cheap Mods link in my signature. These were worked out by several other riders. I just put it together in one easy place with a link.

Thanks to atleastbehandy, I'll soon be installing a dial a jet and n1tc needle on my bike.

As for the main jet, I see that klx678 installed a jet that is different from the stock jet. I did a bit of research and it seems that the DAJ works best with a smaller main jet, to allow for maximum range of adjustment.

I'm wondering if the stock jet, being so lean, would be fine to use with the dial- a- jet.. and why someone would bother getting a larger main jet if they are just going to use the DAJ anyway. I'm at sea level, and wont be riding higher than 4000 feet anytime soon.
