Ya that's what I'm looking for....I've always wondered if the pilot was too small.
The main does allow fuel past the needle doesn't it? The bigger the main the more fuel gets past the needle??? Even at cruising? Am I wrong?

Yes, you are wrong. The needle will control up to about 3/4 throttle opening.

The pilot only really contributes up to about 1/8-1/4 throttle at the most.

If you want to check if you are running lean for sure, when it's hesitating, reach down and pull the choke ****. The choke is actually an enrichener circuit, not a true choke, and will add a small amount of gas to the mix. My 09 had a hesitation when cruising at and above 6000 rpm, I pulled the choke and the hesitation went away... lean on the needle. I had a shim under the stock needle. I went to the adjustable KLX300 needle and it did the job for me.

If there's no hesitation with wide open throttle your main is good.

Odds are it is the needle setting when at the mid throttle setting when cruising at a set rpm like you mention.

Yes I agree....it's just that when I move the needle up (clip down) my low end response suffers...the 3 to 4k range bogs a bit. I put the 132 back in, 3rd slot down and with the lid in and kdx snorkel I still get a slight surging. Tomorrow I'm going to try moving the needle up one more.
So out of adjustment valves wouldn't do this right??

Thanks.

The pilot does provide fuel at idle to 1/4 throttle, but never goes away like the needle and does supplement the needle and main circuit.

So still playing around with this. I did a chop test with the 132, kdx snorkel in. Plug looked pretty white to me...shows lean right? But if I go WOT at 5k up a hill it bogs bad and I have no power under 4k.
Moved the needle up to the 2nd slot from the top (leaner) and the mid range sucked so I put the clip on the 4th slot down. Runs decent enough....just nothing down low.

I ordered a 38 and 40 pilot because yes....the hesitation is around 1/4 throttle and not after that.
Bike ran best with 128 and middle slot position on the needle.

It's really starting to annoy me! I'm getting quick at dismantling the carb!

As far as the surge goes, I'm confident a larger pilot will help.

Don't waste your time reading plugs. It won't tell you anything.

It's not out of the ordinary for a rich condition to cause what you're feeling/seeing too (especially the white plug), but I doubt that's what you have. If it otherwise ran good before, put the 40 pilot in there with your previous baseline setup, and see what happens.

my bike seems to run best with 38 pilot 128 main stage 2. 3 1/4 turns fuel screw kdx 250 snorkel. at sea level it runs lean once I get to the high des 3k and above the jetting is spot on.

think i'll head out to dwf and check out the rower clan on the other side.

So just finished a 1000km ride. Before I left I put the 128 main in clip in the middle and installed #40 pilot.
Sadly, I still have a surge off idle to 1/4 throttle.
Kouba turned out 3 turns
Not sure what to do.
