Help Me ID This Needle
Hey guys, first post. I recently purchased an '06 KLX250 wi 4.4K mi., and the guy I bought it from was the 4th owner, hadn't owned it long, & knew nothing about it. It had stock pipe and all the smog crap still installed. However, the cap over the idle mixture screw had been removed. PO had no idea whether it had been rejetted or not, so I assumed it hadn't. I purchased a DynoJet 2152 kit & tore it down today to install a used HMF Performance pipe, remove smog air line to the exhaust, & install DJ128 main, DJ needle (3rd notch), DJ spring & reset the float level. Runs slightly better, not a lot, although a good deal louder with the HMF! Doesn't constantly push gas out the overflow line now, anyway.
Well, when I got it apart, it had a DJ132 main jet! Also, the needle was obviously not stock based on the manual I have, but it didn't look at all like the DJ needle that came in the 2152 kit. So my question is, do you recognize it? What is it? Is this the N1-TC needle? Is it a needle from another DJ kit, since it did have a DJ main jet?
Thanks for any thoughts.

I'll be honest, I can't tell exactly what needle that is in your pic without another in hand to compare. However, I can guess with a fair amount of certainty that it is a DJ needle of some type or an OEM KLX300 needle. You can tell because it has the tuning clip notches in the needle that the stock KLX250 unit does not have. What's with the washers? I never used a KLX300 needle, but I almost recall someone using washers in spite of the clip notches...but maybe I just dreamed that...LOL!

Oh, and the two washers were installed above the clip (wi clip on 4th notch). Why? Beats me!

The needle should have identifying marks stamped into it.
The washers can serve a couple purposes. The original, non-adjustable needle has a very thick ring instead of a thin clip. When installing an adjustable needle, the washer and clip stack up to take the slop out of the needle/slide assembly. If that slop is left alone, the needle could move up and down in the slide, causing about one-half a clip position worth of jetting inconsistency.
Normally, one washer would go on top of the clip to take out the slop. A finicky jetter can put the washer below the clip to get one-half clip position's worth of adjustment.

No one here that fits that description, is there?

DynoJet 2152 and 2182 instructions show 2 washers on top of needle clip. 2206 instructions show only one washer. It is to put a little tension on the spring.
